They came away with a split. The Pella Christian baseball team took a win and a loss in their home tournament this weekend. The Eagles got out to a quick 3 – 0 lead in the first inning against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and wound up with a 6 – 2 victory. Will Dembski had three hits, including two singles and the game-winning RBI double. He then got a chance to start in the championship game versus Van Buren. Both teams put up a football score after seven innings, but it was the Warriors who got the championship win, 16 – 14. The Eagles held a 6 – 0 lead after the first half-inning, but Van Buren scored ten runs in the third and were able to stave off a furious comeback from PC to win the tournament. Pella Christian is now 12 – 8 this year and they’ll also play the Indians on the road on Monday.
