A fire in the 400 block of North 2nd damaged the exterior of a home Monday evening.

Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell says the fire started after coals from a barbecue grill fell out of bottom of the grill and smoldered, igniting the home’s siding. Knoxville Fire and Rescue and the Knoxville Police Department were on scene quickly and extinguished the blaze before it could spread. Mitchell reminds homeowners to make sure fires are out before leaving them and to do safety checks of grills before and after use. No one was hurt.
