Eleven Emma Schnell strikeouts. No, that’s not what my true love gave to me for Christmas, it’s the damage done by Pella Christian’s softball victory over Grinnell yesterday, 2 – 0. The game remained scoreless through four innings, until the Eagles broke through with two in the fifth thanks to an RBI sacrifice fly from Chloe Dembski and a run-scoring single from Courtney Johannes. Schnell allowed a one-out single in the first inning, and then retired the next 20 batters she faced. The Eagles improve to 18 – 6 this year with the win. Pella Christian’s baseball team held a 4 – 0 advantage over the Tigers after the first inning, but Grinnell scored seven unanswered to down PC, 7 – 5. Mac Sarver smacked a two-run single, Ben Bouwkamp had a sac fly, and Cole VandeVoort also drove in a run with a base knock. The boys watch their record fall to 16 – 11 on the season, and both teams return to the diamond tonight to play Dallas Center – Grimes; the baseball affair is a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
