The weeks of training and qualifying have all led to what happens over the next 32 or so hours for Kurtis Brondyke. The former member of the Central men’s track and field team is in Eugene, Oregon vying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in the decathlon. The top three scores by the end of the day on Sunday will have their tickets punched to Rio to compete for a gold medal on the international stage. Brondyke says there’s a lot of experience in the field, and the battle appears to come down to that third and final slot. The 100-meter dash is the first event that will be run in the decathlon, and is scheduled to start this morning at 9:45 a.m.
