Dangerous heat and humidity returns this week.
According to the National Weather Service, highs in the mid-90s will be widespread Wednesday through Friday, with heat index values approaching 110 degrees. An excessive heat warning is in effect beginning Wednesday through Friday night.
Meteorologist Kurt Kotenberg reminds residents to never leave kids or pets alone in cars during hot summer days.
Kotenberg says an excessive heat warning not only means dangerous heat during the day, but nights will remain warm and uncomfortable as well.
Slightly cooler conditions are expected this weekend, with heat index values staying high near 100. Residents who need to be outside are reminded to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in shade and air conditioning, and to wear light fitting, light colored clothing.
