An excessive heat warning remains in place for the rest of the work week, and with hot weather returning, so does danger to both people and their four-legged friends.
Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella reminds pet owners to check on their animals often during heat waves.
Yoder says to keep pets in air conditioned buildings whenever possible, or if they have to be outside, to provide shade and plenty of water.
He adds to keep pets well groomed, and to avoid exercising during the afternoon.
