First it was NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Kyle Larson, now NASCAR Trucks driver and two-time defending Chili Bowl Midget Nationals winner Rico Abreu has officially entered the 56th Annual 5 Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals. Abreu has gained a reputation of a “have helmet will drive” type of driver winning in midgets, wing and non-wing sprint cars and currently drives for Thor Sport Racing on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with his best finish a third place at last Wednesday’s Aspen Dental Dirt Derby at Eldora finishing behind Larson and fellow dirt track driver Christopher Bell. He raced at the Knoxville Raceway once this season on July first finishing sixth. Abreu has a little motivation for this year as he made the Saturday A-Main of last year’s nationals but was unable to race because of another racing commitment.
