A Pella High School graduate is continuing to make an impact on one of the state’s largest events.
Laurel Stelter helped coordinate recycling efforts on RAGBRAI. She tells KNIA/KRLS News there’s been noticeable improvement with cities offering recycling to cyclists.
“It was great to see western Iowa, they really stepped up to the plate and took charge of their recycling, which has been a struggle in the past, but this year they did especially well,” she says.
“It was great to see the towns implementing the ideas that I’d shared with them of how they should recycle and more specific ways on what containers to use.”
Stelter hopes to continue her work as an intern with RAGBRAI when she goes to Iowa State University for her freshman year. She’s also traveling to Washington D.C. in two weeks to earn an EPA award she received for her efforts in helping the RAGBRAI recycling program.
