Pella Christian’s softball team accomplished many feats this last season. After a disappointing end the previous year where they were ousted in their first playoff game, the Eagles bounced back in 2016 and held strong in a difficult Little Hawkeye Conference. They took down eventual Class 4A state champion Oskaloosa, 7 – 0, early in the season, and lost by a 1 – 0 margin in late June. The Eagles also made their way back to the regional final, where they lost a close 2 – 1 contest to the Class 2A runners-up, Iowa City Regina. Of all the things that went right for Pella Christian this year, Coach Karen Harrill says the team’s prowess at the plate, particularly with the bases loaded, was what stood out the most. PC improved by 32 points in their batting average over last season, drove in nine more runs in three less games, and their slugging percentage was up a whopping 100 points after hitting 16 more home runs than they did a year ago. Most of that firepower will return next summer for Harrill and the Eagles.
