While they may be short on depth and numbers compared to other schools in the conference, Pella Christian Cross Country Coach Jocelyn Meinders is hopeful experience and leadership will help get kids to their end-of-season goals.
Meinders says all of her captains are returning on the boys’ side, which not only has created better competition on the course, but on the varsity lineup as well.
“Nathan Vermeer is coming back as a junior, and he strained his Achilles last year a week before state qualifying, so that kind of put him out of the running for that, but he had a really, really good season last year, and I know he trains really hard in the summer” she says.
“Samuel Dahm will probably be pretty close behind him. Jose Mora Demestri actually jumped in last year during the first week so he even joined us a couple of weeks late and finished right behind those guys.”
The Pella Christian boys and girls cross country teams start the 2016 season at Central College on September 3rd.
