Area law enforcement encourages safe traveling during Labor Day.
Iowa State Patrol Safety Officer Alex Dinkla says all who get behind the wheel should obey posted traffic laws.
“Make sure you buckle up in your car — there’s going to be a lot of traffic and extra people on the road,” he says.
Dinkla says fatal car crashes are up this year, with what the Iowa State Patrol believes have been caused by few factors.
“Some of the things we are seeing is a lot of distracted driving, people having their cell phones,” he says. “And it’s also people not using safe driving habits.”
The Iowa State Patrol and area law enforcement agencies will have additional officers on the road to enforce traffic laws.
