The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, and Knoxville Police Department, and others remembered fallen first responders on 9/11 by hanging flags on city hall and fire stations which commemorate those who lost their lives in the line of duty protecting others.
A ceremonial ringing of 4 sets of five bells, used to honor lost firefighters since the 1850s, and a moment of silence were observed at 9:11 a.m. This marked the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
