Knoxville School Superintendent Cassi Pearson says the procedure for teachers furthering their education within the Knoxville School System is undergoing some changes.
Pearson says that in the past teachers have been able to use state funding from the school to pay tuition costs for some course work when working towards a masters or doctorate degree and simultaneously receive a raise for having achieved a higher education level. Pearson says the Teacher Quality Committee suggested the change to prevent this “double dipping.” Pearson says the teachers are rewarded with a salary increase for their efforts toward higher education. Reliscensure credits will still be eligible for assistance, but in order to advance on the salary schedule teachers will need to pay their own way.
