For just the third time in school history, the Pella High volleyball team is ranked number one!
The Lady Dutch traded places with former top dog Sioux City Heelan, and are the number one team in class 4-A.
Coach Catie Brand says that it’s an honor to be recognized, and it’s also an extra bit of motivation for her team.
“If we have a challenging practice, we have to make sure that we’re earning that spot every single time we step on to the floor. There are no excuses and no complaints. If we’re going to be recognized as one of the top teams in the state, we need to perform that way.”
Brand says that the statewide recognition has changed the team’s goals. At the beginning of the year, they set a goal to win the school’s first ever match at the state tournament, but they’ve adjusted that goal and now have their sights set on the championship trophy.
Pella is 17-4 on the season, and all four losses are to top six teams in class 5-A. They host Newton this Tuesday night.
