The Knoxville City Council heard the results of a feasibility study for the city hall and fire department buildings conducted by Neumann Monson Architects at their meeting Monday.
The report indicated the building housing the police and city hall is becoming unsafe as it ages. The Fire Department is already cramped in their building and they will soon require more space. City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News these issues will be a major concern in years to come. Space for emergency vehicles was also a primary concern. The study concluded new construction of city services buildings will be the best solution to these issues and presented several plans for a building to replace the current infrastructure. Adams says due to the cost of construction these plans may take as long as 30 years to translate into projects, but it’s important to start a conversation about options now.
