Ownership of the Coffee Cup Cafe has until Friday at noon to demolish what remains of their building destroyed in a fire almost one year ago.
Earlier this morning, KNIA/KRLS staff witnessed crews tearing down the structure. The court-imposed deadline means if Morvant Enterprises did not make the lot conform to city code, the City of Pella could have abated the structure themselves and placed a lien on the property.
The city initially gave the owners a deadline to remove the building earlier this year once fences surrounding what remained were taken down. A citation was filed in Marion County District Court in June, and a deadline was set in August to clear the property.
An official cause to the Coffee Cup Cafe fire–which happened on October 26, 2015, has not been determined.
