Central College’s women’s golf team won the Iowa Conference championship this weekend, and coach Tim Wilkinson says the key was his team’s depth.

Four different Central players posted the team’s best score in each of the four rounds of the tournament.

Lexi Patton’s 80 was the best first round, Molly Timmerman fired a 75 in round two, Emily Opsal shot 80 to lead the team in round three, and Brittany Coppess’ 79 was the best final round.

Wilkinson says that he’s been asked many times since Saturday who was the key cog in the championship, and there really isn’t a right answer.

“We’re so deep one through six that each of them contributed at one point or another to our team score, and somebody pointed out that every day, we counted our number five score in the final tally.”

Timmerman’s four-day total of 36-over par 324 was Central’s best, and she finished in fourth place individually.

By winning the Iowa Conference tournament, the Dutch have automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament next May in Houston, Texas.
