The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a garage fire this morning in the 500 block of West South Street in Knoxville.

Firefighters gained access to the blaze using an alley cutting across the block. Fire Chief Jim Mitchell tells KNIA/KRLS News on scene when crews first arrived flames were visible above the house in front of the garage, but a two and half inch hose was able to control the body of the fire quickly. By 7:00 a.m., responders were searching the garage for hot spots to prevent flames from returning. Mitchell credited the quick response of crews in the successful effort. A passerby noticed the smoke, called 911, and alerted the household. No one was injured.
