The PCM Mustangs took care of business on Friday as they ended the Roland Story Norsemen’s season in round one of the 2016 Iowa high school football state playoffs with at 38-7 win.
The win for the Mustangs propels them to the quarterfinals next Friday night where they will host the #8 team in Class 2A the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines. The Mustangs came out from the beginning and established the run game behind Sophomore Wes Cummings, and then made major connections through the air from Senior Sheldon Speers to Seniors Luke Greiner and Noah Clark. The Norsemen would score on a broken play long touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter and that would be their only points all night. At the half the Mustangs had a commanding 31-7 lead and would put the game on cruise control the rest of the way. With the win and another dominating performance on both side of the ball that the PCM fans have come accustomed to, the Mustangs proved to the rest of Class 2A that they are indeed a real title contender. With the win and another tough game next week against Dike-New Hartford for the right to play in the UNI Dome pressure and distractions will be in the air all week but Head Coach Greg Bonnett knows where the Mustangs mindset needs to be to continue deep into the playoffs. The Mustangs and Wolverines will hit the gridiron this Friday with kickoff schedule for 7 pm.
