The Self-Supporting Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) program has expired.

The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension Office to discuss the future of the program. The district levies an extra tax on business owners in the downtown area which is used to make facade and historical preservation improvements to improve the appeal of the whole area. The district has been in place for the past ten years. Past Chamber President Annie Leonard says input from business owners within the district is needed in order to continue the program. She says some some members have raised questions about using the funds to bring buildings up to the most recent fire code. Notifications were mailed to business owners in the District. Contact the Knoxville Chamber Office if you have any questions.
