Two Des Moines metro police officers were shot and killed in ambush-style attacks overnight.

One was an Urbandale officer; the other was with the Des Moines Police Department. They appear to have been shot while sitting in their cars. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News a tragedy like this one will not go unmourned or unpunished. He says the hearts of all members of the Knoxville Police Department go out to those affected and the killer will be taken into custody to face justice.

Officials have now have a suspect in custody. The Iowa State patrol reports 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene of Urbandale has been detained in Dallas County.
