Local police are responding to the news of two officers ambushed in the Des Moines metro early yesterday morning.
Scott Michael Greene was placed in custody in Dallas County following a manhunt by numerous agencies. Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky says it was a sad day for all law enforcement, the families of the fallen officers, and the communities they served.
“They lost two officers who were there to protect them, care about them, and make their communities a safer place,” Bokinsky says.
Bokinsky says the department has received additional support from community members in the wake of the tragedy. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News a tragedy like this one will not go unmourned or unpunished, and officers every where will try and move forward with their sworn duty.
“Most officers have a high sense of community pride, and they want to make their communities the best place in the world to be,” he says.
That mean’s doing things other people don’t want to do, it means seeing things other people don’t want to see, it means experiencing things other people don’t want to experience.”
“Just because something bad happens, we don’t get to stay home.”
He says the hearts of all members of the Knoxville Police Department go out to those affected and they hope the person responsible will face justice.
