The Office of the State Auditor has released the results of a special investigation involving the Melcher-Dallas School District.

Auditor Mary Mosiman’s report states that an investigation was undertaken at the request of the school district because of concerns regarding disbursements issued by former Business Manager Nathan Spiegel. Spiegel resigned on January 16 of this year. The special investigation identified nearly $53,000 of improper disbursements. The report includes recommendations to strengthen the District’s internal controls and overall operations. Charges are pending against Spiegel. Superintendent Randy Alger tells KNIA/KRLS News financial ethics are taken seriously in the district and a new system of checks and balances put in place in concert with state officials will eliminate further transparency issues.
