Statewide, much as it was federally and locally, swung heavily towards to GOP in the 2016 General Election.

The Republican Party now controls both the Iowa House and Senate, with Democrats losing three seats in the latter.

In Marion County, federal races also leaned Republican, with Senator Chuck Grassley and Republican U.S. House Challenger Chris Peters earning sizeable wins in the county. Grassley won reelection with Peters fell to Congressman Dave Loebsack.
