Republicans were victorious in local Marion County contested elections Tuesday night.

In the House District 28 race between Republican Incumbent Greg Heartsill and Democratic challenger Martin Duffy IV, Heartsill pulled in 6,155 for about 60% of the vote over Duffy’s 4,100 votes. Representative Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS he is honored to have the faith of the electorate. He emphasized economic opportunity and de-regulation as goals for the new session. The Senate District 14 race saw Incumbent Republican Amy Sinclair defeat Independent Ruth Smith 6,826 to 2,326 ballots or about 75% to 25%. Senator Sinclair looks forward to continuing to work for Iowans in the Legislature. Approximately 74% of registered voters cast their ballots.
