In a “stunning” turn from recent general elections and many predictions and projections, president-elect Donald Trump led the Republican party to a convincing upset of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

KNIA/KRLS had live election coverage at the Maytag Student Center on Central College’s campus, where professors Andrew Green, Randy Renstrom, and Brian Peterson discussed the returns as they came in. Both Green and Renstrom tell KNIA/KRLS News they were shocked, due to an expectation among many–based on polls and other research, expecting a Clinton victory.

The two plan to follow research trends to determine how Trump was able to defy expectations and become the 45th President of the United States.
