A senior at Pella Christian High School has earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36.
Hanna Vos, the daughter of Duane and Stephanie Vos, earned the number on her attempt at the test this fall.
Vos thought she had performed well, but was not expecting the highest score possible.
“I looked it up online because I heard other people had gotten their scores back, and I opened it, and I was really surprised,” she says.
Vos didn’t do additional prep, but had taken the ACT previously. She credits her classwork at Pella Christian High School for getting her ready.
“I definitely think it’s helped me,” she says. “We do a lot of challenging work and I’ve always challenged myself to take those extra classes to just help me and I think overall it’s prepared me over the years.”
On average, less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2016, only 2,235 out of nearly 2.1 million graduates who took the ACT earned a composite score of 36.
Vos is undecided about her college choice, but says the score definitely opens up her options. She’s leaning towards becoming a radiologist as a career path.
