The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
They heard a proposal from the Knoxville American Legion on purchasing or otherwise acquiring the land between Memorial Hall and the American Legion building. The board reaffirmed Auditor Jake Grandia as the insurance contact person for the Iowa Community Assurance Pool. They approved Calhoun-Burns and Associates to conduct the Marion County Bridge Inspection and Rating Program. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian tells KNIA/KRLS News the firm has been conducting needed inspections in the county for more than 30 years. Christian says the number of bridges, and thus the cost of inspection, has been decreasing and now only 206 bridges remain in the county. The Supervisors also granted liquor and tobacco licenses to Newton New Star LLC, which is reopening the closed Red Rock Quick Stop on the outskirts of Pella.
