As winter weather approaches, citizens in Pella and Knoxville should prepare for snow ordinances.
In Pella, Public Works Director Denny Buyert declares snow emergencies, which is driven by weather forecasts or actual accumulation. Chief of Police Robert Bokinsky and the Pella PD alert the public through KNIA/KRLS. During a snow emergency, vehicles parked on a city street, alley, or designated parking lot may be issued a citation or may be towed. Every city street is designated as a snow route, and vehicles may not impede or block traffic during a snow emergency.
In Knoxville, vehicles found on the street during an ordinance may be cited ($25 fine) and/or towed as well. The Knoxville Snow Ordinance, declared by Police Chief Dan Losada, generally goes into effect any time the city receives one inch or more of snow. Once in place, the Knoxville snow ordinance stays in effect until the storm ends and the street has been plowed from curb to curb or 24 hours has passed since the snow has ended.
As a reminder, property owners in both cities are required to remove snow and ice from public sidewalks after a snowfall ceases. Those responsible for snow and ice removal are not allowed to blow, push, or place any of the snow or ice upon a city street or city right-of-way.
Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for severe winter weather coverage.
