Don French of Knoxville, an employee at the Pella Walmart, was there for some personal shopping, when the crash occurred.

“From a far corner of the store, I heard a loud, crashing sound,” he says. “I looked up, and saw a lot of people running toward what had happened, I started running toward it myself, and that’s when I saw that the truck had gone not only through the front door, but at least 30 or 40 feet through the front door where it had crashed into some of the produce area.”

French tells KNIA/KRLS News bystanders moved quickly to comfort the injured, using pillows and whatever other items they could get from store shelves to help.

French praised first responders for their speed and compassion. He asked everyone for their thoughts and prayers for all those affected and particularly everyone in the Walmart family.

“All of us employees are in some way affected by this,” he says.
