Both PCM Basketball squads picked up wins last night in a Heart of Iowa Conference clash in Baxter against the Raiders of CMB, the girls winning 56-40 and the boys taking care of business 67-53 in games heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
The girls team had depth issues with several girls unable to play due to injury and coming off their first loss of the season, and it showed in the first quarter with the Raiders getting a 15-12 lead. A strong PCM defense showed up the rest of the game, limiting the Raiders to no made shots from the field in the entire second and third quarters. Kayla Jennings led the team with 19 points including a 10/11 night from the charity stripe, and the girls improve to 3-1 on the season.
The CMB boys made it close until halftime against the Mustangs, 32-28, but a 10-point quarter from junior Jackson Thomas would seal the win. Thomas led the way with a 24-point performance, Andrew Van Ryswyk put in 13, and Dayton Boell had a 12-point night. The Mustang boys are now 2-1, and both teams will be off until next Tuesday when they face off against Gilbert.
