Two former Knoxville Track Standouts have earned awards and top finishes in the early part of the indoor season. Derek Seddon received Heart of Iowa Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the week. Seddon won the shot put with a distance of 51 feet 9 3/4 inches, he also took first place in the weight throw with a distance of 56 feet eight inches. After the first week of competition he leads the entire N-A-I-A in the shot put and is second nationally in the weight throw. Also, former Panther Nathan Winters, who attends Indian Hills Community College got his collegiate career off to a good start with a runner up in the shot put at the Central Holiday Preview with a distance of 50 feet 1 1/4 inches. Winters is the only male athlete so far to have reached the N-J-C-A-A indoor standard for any event and leads all shot putters nationally by 13 feet.
