Knoxville Fire and Rescue and the Knoxville Police Department responded to a fully-engulfed garage at West Jefferson and South Brobst Street Thursday afternoon.

The structure was packed with firewood and gasoline, leading to a blaze that grew in intensity quickly, but the response of the Knoxville Fire Department protected the nearby house and prevented damage beyond charred and melted siding and smoke damage. Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell tells KNIA/KRLS News firefighters got one of their most powerful hoses, a 2 ½ inch bore capable of delivering 250 gallons per minute, operating immediately. The homeowner tells KNIA/KRLS News he had a wood burning stove in the garage and sparks from it may have started the fire. Mitchell says the fire is still under investigation at this time. The garage was a total loss. No one was hurt in the blaze.
