Iowa State University Microbiology Club Hosts High School Students Nov. 11, 2016 from ISUCALS on Vimeo.

Sixteen students from Mrs. Hones’ biology and honors biology classes at Pella High attended a microbiology workshop at Iowa State University.

Luke Pavlat tells KNIA/KRLS News that throughout the day-long trip in November, students received hands-on training and experience with samples in a modern laboratory facility.

“We also learned a lot about the different applications about the different labs we were doing,” he says.

Kaeleigh DeWaard says it was engaging to learn outside of the classroom.

“We went into a lot of detail with all of them and we did a lot of different labs, and that was a lot of fun to see because it was just college students helping us out,” she says.

Pella students worked with those enrolled in science programs at Iowa State to understand how the labs worked.
