A winter weather advisory begins Friday morning for all of South Central Iowa.

According to the National Weather Service, up to .10″ of ice will be followed by 1-2″ of snow throughout much of the warned area. The advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday. Travel will be made hazardous by both the falling precipitation and winds varied from 15 to 30 MPH. Those hitting the roads are asked to use extra caution and be prepared for slick spots and reduced visibility.

The advisory area includes Marion, Mahaska, Poweshiek, Jasper, Polk, Warren, Lucas, and Monroe Counties. Following the end of the advisory, temperatures will plummet, with overnight lows into Sunday Morning dropping well below zero, with wind chills bottoming out as low as 30 below zero.
