Students in Mrs. Sadler’s 7th period social studies class are selling old football and track jerseys that were otherwise going to be thrown away to raise money for charities.

Anna Ruiter tells KNIA/KRLS News they are hoping to raise funds at a stand they built in their classroom.

“We had old football and track jerseys that we decided to sell,” she says. The students received the excess gear from Middle School AD Scott Tjeerdsma after purchasing new gear for those teams this fall.

Her classmate Marissa Johnston says they became “creative” when they were unable to sell some of their product early, and they are taking special orders for ready made pillows, bags, and other items.

Classmate Seth Fisher says there are a variety of charities being supported, including the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Red Cross, and funding for kids who can’t get books from the book fairs at Madison and Lincoln, among others.

Click here for the classroom’s website for ordering information and the types of products available. Football jerseys cost $10 and track jerseys cost $5, with custom made products available for other prices.
