The Knoxville City Council has started their review of the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget.
Council members are establishing their priorities for the next year and scheduling discretionary spending. City Manager Aaron tells KNIA/KRLS News there are many wants and needs for the city and the process for determining the path forward is exciting, but difficult. Adams says available discretionary spending is limited, but can still have an impact for the city. Important choices include the allocation of the Hotel Motel Tax, prioritizing spending from the newly creating storm water utility, planning updates to City Hall and the Knoxville Fire Department buildings in the near future and continuation of construction on the Competine Trail. Adams says Council members are reviewing the possibilities and responsibilities the city has in the coming year. The budget will be finalized at the January 16 council meeting. All city department heads will be present to talk about their needs in 2017 and 2018.
