A Nevada woman is accused of extorting the family of a man she allegedly performed sex acts with in exchange for money in Pella.

Mary LeAnn Nelson, 35, is charged with extortion, a class D felony, and prostitution. According to the Pella Police Department and court records, an unidentified Pella man contacted Nelson for “a massage” in November. He paid $500 to Nelson, and later admitted to police they had consensual sex in exchange for money.

Nelson is accused of contacting the man’s mother and claimed she was sexually assaulted by him, but if the mother paid her, she wouldn’t go to police. The man said Nelson told him she needed money as well. Nelson received a $1500 check from the family after making “threatening” comments. Police say she attempted to receive additional payment from the family again later that month, but they contacted officers, which led to the investigation and eventual arrest.

Nelson denied the allegations prior to her arrest. She was taken into custody on a warrant and has a preliminary hearing in Marion County District Court on January 6th. The prosecutor’s office maintains the position that this case is still open, and a decision on additional charges has not been reached yet until the investigation is finished.
