The Pella Police Department has completed a month-long investigation into allegations of sexual exploitation by a teacher.
On Tuesday, the Pella PD requested and received an arrest warrant for one count of Sexual Exploitation by a Teacher – Pattern, Practice, or Scheme, a class D Felony. Today, Juan Carlos Munoz turned himself in.
Police say the incidents occurred in December 2016 in Pella and involved two students, both under the age of 18. Munoz was a teacher for the school district at the time of the offense. After learning of Munoz’s illicit behavior, investigators took over a student’s email account and continued communications with Munoz, receiving three unsolicited photos of his genitalia.
On December 5, 2016, Pella PD investigators executed a search and seizure warrant at Munoz’s residence, where they collected evidence pertaining to the investigation.
The Pella School Board accepted Munoz’s resignation at their December 12th meeting after learning of the allegations on December 2nd. Superintendent Greg Ebeling tells KNIA/KRLS News Munoz was not in any contact with students in the building following the December 2nd school day, as he formally submitted his resignation the following Monday, December 5th.
