Tax season is about to begin across the country.

CPA Brett Nikkel with Van Maanen, Sietstra, Meyer and Nikkel says documents will begin to come in via mail from employers. He says to make sure all documentation is in before preparing taxes.

“The most important thing is going to be the tax forms that you get, whether it be 10-99 or W2 forms” he says. “Any form that goes to the IRS is very important because then they know that you’ve earned that or deducted that.”

For other income outside of regular forms, Nikkel recommends keeping thorough documentation to prove to the IRS that any deductions taken are justified.

Nikkel recommends scheduling an appointment with a professional CPA to ensure taxes are accurate.
