The Pella City Council approved an engineering services contract for repairs at the Pella Municipal Airport at their meeting this week.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says the project is necessary due to issues reported with concrete on the runway.

“Iowa winters have a tendency to be very hard on concrete, and our runway at the Pella Municipal Airport is no exception to that,” Nardini says.

According to Nardini, federal funds will cover up to 90% of costs associated with the repairs, with the city required to provide a match for the remainder. The engineering services are expected to be finished this spring, with bids immediately following and repairs scheduled sometime this fall.
