Both of the Knoxville Basketball squads used large point eruptions to vanquish the Albia Blue Demons last night as heard on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA. The girls used an opening 10-0 run and kept the Lady Dees at bay for the rest of the game winning 39-28. Shaye Nichols scored 18 points to lead all scorers while Katie Keitges added 11, and Kendrea Richardson scored eight points and grabbed ten rebounds. The Panthers defense was the highlight of the night as Knoxville held an Albia team 21 points below its average. Knoxville is now 4-5 on the season and 3-3 in the South Central Conference. The Panther boys racked up 25 points in the third quarter, more than doubling their first half output in eight minutes to break open a close and sluggish game to beat Albia 61-47 last night. The Panthers struggled to get going offensively in the first half and defensive breakdowns hampered them in the opening 16 minutes. However Ben Wallace scored 15 of his game high 25 points in the third quarter to give Knoxville a 12 point lead after three quarters. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports his guys stuck to what they do best and it all worked out. Knoxville is now 7-1 on the season and 6-0 in the South Central Conference. Both Panther teams return to the court today hosting Newton.
