A winter storm watch is in effect from Sunday morning to Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, ice accumulations of approximately .25″ are possible during that time frame in Marion County and the surrounding area. Snow and sleet is also in the forecast, and may mix with freezing rain. Spotty damage to power lines and tree limbs is possible, and slick road conditions are expected during the Winter Storm Watch.
The Marion County Road Department is preparing today for the storm, and tells KNIA/KRLS News trucks and motor graders will be ready to clear roads Sunday and Monday. They are placing chains on tires in anticipation of icy conditions.
For those planning to travel south this weekend, an Ice Storm Warning has been issued for all of Missouri, most of Kansas, and part of Illinois until early Monday morning. Widespread ice accumulations above .5″ are expected.
