The Iowa House voted Monday night to pass SF 130, which de-appropriated $117.6 million from the fiscal year 2017-18 budget.

After three hours of debate, the bill passed on a party line vote of 58-38. Representative Greg Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS News “While this was a painful process, it was necessary in order to balance the budget for this year. One small consolation is that we were able to hold K-12 public education harmless during this process and the cuts that were eventually agreed to were a lot less than what the Governor originally proposed.” Now that the de-appropriations are complete, Heartsill says the House will focus on setting Supplemental State Aid for K-12 schools.
