The Pella City Council will decide whether or not Mahaska County can leave a 28E Agreement at their meeting Tuesday.
Last month, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors voted to remove themselves from the document first established in 2012, in which the board agreed to work in good faith with Pella and Oskaloosa to build a regional airport in northern Mahaska County. Board Director Mark Doland tells KNIA/KRLS the decision was made on a 2-1 vote to leave the agreement because the board felt they were not adequately represented by the South Central Regional Airport Agency, and because many in Mahaska County are opposed to the project.
The Pella and Oskaloosa City Councils have to agree to let the county out of the agreement in order for it to be official, an amendment both will consider at their regular meetings Tuesday.
