High school speech students earned all-state nominations following their performances at the state competition this past weekend.

Pella and Pella Christian each have a group performing at the all-state speech festival – Pella’s Improv Group Zeimetz, and PC’s Musical Theater performance of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Pella Christian and Pella each add three non-performing nominations selected as well. A panel of judges submitted what they felt were the best acts from four different site at Saturday’s state contest, and those earning all-state honors were rated among the best in the state. Those selected to perform will do so at the All-State Speech Festival on Saturday, February 18th at Iowa State Center in Ames.

The Pella High School Speech team qualified four groups for All State consisting of 26 students. The Improv group of Julie Start, Isaac Zeimetz, Grace Larson and Ethan Vance will perform at All State. The other groups are non performing and consist of the Musical Theatre Something Rotten with Jarod Martens, Michael Schildroth, Sam Sharp, Tate Petty, Hannah Emmert, Juliana Van Gorp and Lydia Taylor. In the TV News category Levi Dugger, Troy Miller, Gavin Klein, Sam Sharp, Luke Schemm, Jacob Schemm and Tate Petty qualified. Finally, the 9th grade Readers Theatre Superheros: With Great Power Comes Ordinary Responsibility qualified with students Hanna Kendall, Cameron Johnson, Zoe Card, Colten Van Zanten, Emily Rozendaal, Olivia Marstall, Liam Peffers, Grace Cottington, Elaine Schippers and Chris Call.
