The Marion County Sheriff’s office is reminding residents that seat belts save lives.
With winter weather causing havoc across area roadways, residents in Marion County are advised to buckle up as soon as they enter their vehicle. According to the sheriff’s office, when worn correctly safety belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat car occupants by 45% percent and 60% percent in pickup trucks, SUVs and mini-vans. The fine for not wearing your seat belt could cost you up to $132.50.
