A self-imposed funnel date for policy legislation is nearing at the state capitol.

State Representative Greg Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS News one of the policy issues that he is working on is a bill that would create a civil protection no-contact order much like no-contact orders that are used for victims of domestic violence. Heartsill adds that currently 34 states have bills like this and he wants Iowa to be the 35th. Heartsill says because the legislature is a part-time legislature, they self-impose the funnel deadline to create a winnowing effect of the bills they are working on. According to Heartsill, legislators have to have policy bills out of their committees by the end next week if they want the bill to advance.
