As a controversial bill reducing what state employees can bargain for when negotiating makes its way through the courts, it could be months and even years until the full effects are seen.

State Representative Guy Vander Linden was among many in the Republican party supporting the legislation, and tells KNIA/KRLS News the aim was to give more control to supervisors, school boards, and city councils when negotiating annual contracts. He says the key provision that earned his “yes” vote centered around arbitration hearings.

Vander Linden dismisses claims the bill is an attack on public employees, and instead says the legislation will allow for a more “fair process.” Hear more about his thoughts on the collective bargaining legislation on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
