The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in special session Wednesday.
The purpose of the meeting was to begin a discussion regarding long-term expense planning. Among discussion items were the potential cost savings that could come from program or departmental consolidations, eliminations, or reduction. It was relayed that while the county is in good shape financially, the state is experiencing a budget shortfall, and that some costs may be passed down to the county level. Department heads were asked to provide a perspective on expenses, major projects, and staff changes three to five years into the future by the end of April.
